Three faced German baby doll
This 38 cm tall composition headed baby doll is unmarked but the original cloth body is typical of German composition dolls so I'm quite sure she is German (plus I purchased her on eBay from someone in Germany who said she was German!). I think she would have been in the 1930s or 40s. Her composition head has three quite expressive faces, particularly the crying face. The features are painted except for the eyes which are transfers. She has a cloth hood over her head which is sewn to the body and her tuft of hair is attached to the hood. There must be a mechanism inside her body connected to her neck as the head swivels very easily when the knob on top of her head is turned. The body has a cryer which works when she's tipped. Her clothing isn't original. This model doesn't turn up very often - I'm not sure whether there were few made or whether they just didn't survive well.
