Sarah Midgley aboriginal doll
This Australian aborigine doll was made in Australia and designed by Sarah Midgley sometime between the late 1920s and 1940s. Kimport Dolls of the USA imported some of the Sarah Midgley dolls and distributed them via their Worldwide Doll Club. People could collect international dolls through the club without having to travel. Sarah Midgley female dolls are usually named Budgeree and were given that name as Sarah had had a childhood friend called Budgeree. This is a male doll with his original tag which I think reads Wagadain Aboriginal Dancer, headdress and ankets emu feathers. The feathers have long since distintegrated but the rest of the doll has lasted well. He is well made and there is good attention to detail with individually stitched fingers and toes. His shield is made of a seed pod and all the painting of the doll is hand-done. He measures 34 cm in height.
