Russian
celluloid dolls

Russian celluloid dolls are quite hard to find and are probably quite scarce.
Russian celluloid is very similar to the type of celluloid produced in
Poland. It's a bit thicker than Japanese celluloid and has a plastic-type
quality to it. Russian celluloid dolls have great character to them and I
feature three different types here. The two larger dolls are marked with
the symbol to the right, the letters XK overlapping an oval. I understand
that this is the mark of Ohtinsky Chemical Factory which was the main
manufacturer of Russian celluloid dolls. These dolls would have been made
in the 1930s-50s.

bonnet on its head. The standing doll has rubber shoes glued to its feet
which appear to be original to the doll.
This is the
largest of the dolls at 51 cm tall. She has painted eyes. She is
marked to the back of her head and torso with the XK symbol.
This doll
measures 33 cm high. She also has painted eyes. She is marked only
to the back of the torso with the XK symbol.
This is the
smallest of the dolls at 30 cm high. She is marked on the back of her head
with a symbol that looks like a mirror image of a 5. The way her eyes are
painted is similar to the other two Russian celluloids so she was most likely
also made by the same factory.
