Minerva metal headed doll

This lovely metal headed doll is called Henrietta, a name that has been pencilled on the back of her shoulderplate head, possibly by the original owner.  She measures 35 cm tall.  Her metal head has sleeping brown glass eyes, open mouth with teeth and original mohair wig.  It is marked Germany.  Her body is kid leather with bisque lower arms.  A lot of German metal headed dolls came on this type of body but are also commonly found with cloth bodies.  Metal headed dolls were made in Germany from 1888 through the 1930s.  They were meant to be more durable than the bisque headed dolls but many have not survived well, having a tendency for the paint to chip and crack or the head to rust.  This doll wears vintage clothes that are not original to her.
