Baby Blue Eyes

A celluloid baby doll often seen in New Zealand is the doll known as Baby Blue Eyes which was manufactured in Japan.  There are two examples here, both of which are 46 cm tall and both bear the same maker's mark of a cross inside a circle:

The first doll is made out of a shiny celluloid and is the most commonly found type with painted blue eyes.  He is marked with the words Fairylite and Baby Blue Eyes Senior.

The other doll is rare in that the eyes are sleeping.  The eye mechanism is also very unusual in that, unlike most sleep-eye dolls, the eyes themselves don't shut but the eyelids close over the eyes.  The celluloid on this doll has a matte finish.
