Autoperipatikos

Autoperipatikos (walking) dolls were made from the 1860s onwards in various countries including Germany, France and the USA.  This example is unmarked but has a German head which dates from around 1875.  The hairstyle is sometimes known as spill curls.  She is 30 cm and wears her original clothes.  Her body is a cylinder shape which houses a clockwork mechanism - when wound she moves along by means of three wheels on her base.
