1860s china head
This is a great old doll! She measures 52 cm tall and has a china head on her original cloth body. It's an interesting body with long leather arms and leather boots with tassels. She's got a very slim waist with wide hips. Even her clothing appears all original. Pinned to the dress is a sash reading This is Ora S Manly's 6 Birth Day, Feb 6 1887. The hairstyle of the doll and the long sloping shoulders date it to the 1860s so when the sash was put on the doll she was already well over 20 years old. I like to think that she may have been a birthday present hand-me-down, perhaps from a mother to her daughter. I did an Internet search for Ora Manly and discovered that an Ora S Manly, born 1881, lived in Summit, Ohio in 1900 as she was listed on a census in that year. If you know anything about Ora Manly I'd love to hear from you as it would be nice to have information about her to keep with the doll.
